The Eclipse Observation – December 2019

The eclipse observation event and the teacher training program organized under IAU funded “Open Astronomy Schools” was successfully concluded in Jaffna, Sri Lanka on 26.12.2019. The participant teachers gained knowledge on how to incorporate astronomy-related hands-on activities in the school lessons. They got to know about free software packages that are available to use in the classrooms when teaching astronomy and science. The major impact was that the teachers and students learned how to tackle myths and misconceptions widespread among their societies using science. Overall, the event was an inspirational event for both teachers and students. We acknowledge the help and support we received from the Provincial Department of Education, Northern Province.
